The Difference Between Mold and Mildew

Posted on by

Are there differences between Mold and Mildew? Research shows that many homeowners are confused about the difference between the two. The truth is, many will call what is really dangerous mold, “Mildew“. It is interesting that from a technical standpoint, there is no significant difference between mold and mildew, because mildew is a subgroup of mold. However, mildew normally forms outside on the exterior of your home, while mold grows inside.

Mildew has a powdery look, and may look white or a green color, some times found on plants outside of your home. You will also see this on the side of homes. However, mold is found on the inside of homes typically and this means it is extra dangerous to your health.

Mold and mildew should both be tested then treated by a professional. This means not running to the bleach right away. Having your home tested is always the first step when mold or mildew is detected. At Green Air Technology, we help home and business owners determine how to best handle their mold problem.
